Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivered a strong critique of the opposition during his speech at the Assembly's winter session on Monday. He raised a provocative question regarding religious processions, sparking debate. He asked, "If Muslim processions can be held in Hindu-dominated areas, why can't Hindu processions take place in Muslim areas?"

CM Yogi Adityanath also accused the opposition of attempting to conceal the truth, likening it to the sun that cannot be hidden. The Chief Minister further pointed to the long-standing history of communal riots in Sambhal since 1947, stressing the numerous victims of religious violence in the region.

Why Are Hindu Processions Not Allowed in Muslim Areas?

“Where is it written in the constitution that a hindu procession cannot take place in a muslim-majority area? And when you stop it, then the hindu side reacts by saying, 'we won’t let you go either.' I am surprised by such actions, saying that they won't allow the procession to pass in front of a mosque. Why shouldn't they allow it? Is the road anyone’s private property? These are public roads. How can you stop it”, CM Yogi Adityanath said in the assembly.

Yogi Adityanath confronted the opposition's politics surrounding Hindu-Muslim tensions, reaffirming his government's commitment to opposing religious discrimination and ensuring equal rights for all citizens. He also stated that the Shia-Sunni conflict in Lucknow was resolved under the BJP administration.

The Chief Minister pointed out the history of communal violence in Sambhal, noting that riots have plagued the area since 1947, resulting in numerous fatalities between 1947 and 1996. He emphasized that these ongoing conflicts continue to shape the region's social and political dynamics.

CM Yogi also referenced the 1978 tragedy, in which 184 Hindu citizens were burned alive, stressing that communal violence is not just a contemporary issue but a persistent challenge that demands collective societal efforts to address.

'Goal to promote unity, not divide society', says CM Yogi

“Your politics was from the very beginning, of dividing and then cutting”, CM Yogi said.

“That is why we said, ‘We will neither divide nor cut’”, he added.

The Chief Minister delivered a strong message to the opposition in the Assembly, emphasizing that his government's objective is to foster unity and integrity, not to create divisions within society. He highlighted the slogan "Na Batenge, Na Katenge," symbolizing societal unity. Yogi Adityanath also cautioned that anyone trying to create divisions within society will encounter opposition from the people.
