"We are pleased to extend an invitation to our friend, Prime Minister Modi, to visit Russia," Putin conveyed to Jaishankar at the Kremlin. "It will provide us with the opportunity to discuss current issues and explore the outlook for the development of Russian-Indian relations. There is much work to be done," the Russian leader was quoted by the state-run Tass news agency.



The economic toll of piracy underscores the imperative for sustained vigHe requested the Indian minister to convey his best wishes to PM Modi along with the invitation to Russia. Putin acknowledged India's forthcoming Lok Sabha elections next year, recognizing the country's internal affairs. "Our trade turnover has been steadily increasing for the second consecutive year, with this year's growth rate even surpassing the previous year's" Putin remarked. At the onset of the meeting, Putin informed Jaishankar that discussions would include the conflict in Ukraine. "We are aware of Prime Minister Modi's stance, and we have previously discussed his approach to complex issues, including the situation in Ukraine," Putin stated. He expressed his knowledge of PM Modi's desire for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and indicated that they would delve deeper into the matter during their discussions.


Jaishankar, currently on a five-day visit to Russia, engaged in a "comprehensive and productive" meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Manturov upon his arrival on Tuesday. The two leaders also witnessed the signing of significant agreements related to the construction of future power-generating units at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu.


Earlier, Jaishankar held discussions with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. During a joint media appearance with Lavrov after their talks, Jaishankar expressed confidence in the forthcoming annual summit between PM Modi and President Putin. 


"The summit between the Prime Minister of India and the Russian president represents the highest institutional dialogue mechanism in the strategic partnership between the two nations," Jaishankar highlighted. Notably, India and Russia have held 21 annual summits alternately in each other's countries. The most recent summit occurred in New Delhi in December 2021.


Despite Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, the ties between India and Russia remain robust. India has refrained from condemning the Russian invasion, emphasizing the importance of resolving the crisis through diplomacy and dialogue.


Meanwhile, in Tehran, Jaishankar's strategic discussions echoed India's commitment to regional stability. Emphasizing the critical importance of securing the Red Sea, Jaishankar underscored the imperative for swift action against maritime threats.
