Detailed briefing and counter-terror measures

Prime Minister Modi was extensively briefed on the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including ongoing efforts to address increased terrorist activities. Stressing the need for a strong response, Modi underscored the importance of utilizing India’s full range of counter-terrorism capabilities.

Following the security briefing, PM Modi met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the deployment of security forces and the status of counter-terrorism operations in the area. Additionally, Modi conferred with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to gain insight into the situation on the ground, receiving updates on local administration efforts to restore normalcy.

The Recent Surge in Terror Attacks

The review meeting follows a series of terror attacks that have shaken Jammu and Kashmir in recent days, with key incidents in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda raising significant security concerns. On June 9, terrorists attacked a bus in Reasi, causing it to plummet into a gorge. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of at least nine pilgrims and left 42 others injured, highlighting the alarming scale of civilian casualties.

In another recent incident, a constable from the Special Operations Group (SOG) was injured during a confrontation in Doda district, according to reports from the Jammu and Kashmir police. This attack, along with other incidents in Kathua, underscores the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups in the region, necessitating a robust security response.

PM Modi Directs Deployment of Full Counter-Terror Capabilities

During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed officials to deploy the "full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities," emphasizing the need for a coordinated response to the security challenges in Jammu & Kashmir. This directive highlights the government's commitment to enhancing security measures and ensuring the region's safety.

PM Modi's review underscores the government's resolve to tackle terrorism effectively and safeguard the interests of Jammu & Kashmir residents. The focus on deploying comprehensive counter-terror measures reflects the government's proactive approach in addressing the ongoing security challenges in the region.
