Prime Minister Modi strongly criticized opposition leaders for mocking the Hindu religion during a public address in Chhattarpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday. This statement was made after he laid the foundation stone for the Bageshwar Dham Medical and Science Research Institute for Cancer.

PM Modi highlighted that a group of politicians constantly ridicules the Hindu religion and fosters division among people. He further remarked that foreign forces are exploiting these politicians to undermine the country. “Many times, foreign powers are seen taking support of such people to weaken the country,” he said. “Such Hindu-hating people have existed in some phase or the other for centuries”, he added.
Modi Criticizes Attacks on Hindu Traditions
His comments come amid criticism of the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj by some opposition leaders. Without holding back, the Prime Minister labeled such politicians as having a "slave mentality" and accused them of repeatedly attacking Hindu religion and traditions. “These people suffering from the slave mentality have been attacking our faith, beliefs and temples; our saints, culture and principles,” he said, fiercely criticizing the opposition. “They abuse our festivals, traditions and customs,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi stated that Hinduism is inherently a progressive religion, yet some individuals deliberately criticize it. “They dare throw mud at a faith and a culture that is progressive by nature, ” he said.
PM praised Pandit Dhirendra Shastri
Referring to him as a younger brother, the Prime Minister praised Pandit Dhirendra Shastri of Bagheshwar Dham for his efforts in fostering unity within society. “For a long time, my younger brother Dhirendra Shastri Ji has been spreading awareness among people using the mantra of unity, ” said PM Modi. Modi commended Shastri for his decision to establish the Bageshwar Dham Medical and Science Research Institute for Cancer. Expressing his delight, Modi stated that people would now have access to treatment at Bageshwar Dham. “Here, in Bageshwar Dham people will now be blessed with prayers, food and disease-free life,” he added.
Mamata Banerjee Calls Maha Kumbh 'Mrityu Kumbh'
After the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, which resulted in multiple casualties, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Uttar Pradesh government. Referring to the event as ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ (Kumbh of Deaths), she accused the BJP-led administration of favoring the wealthy over the underprivileged. “This is Mrityu Kumbh. I respect Maha Kumbh, and I respect the holy Ganga Ma. But there is no planning. How many people have been rescued? For the rich and VIPs, there are systems in place to get camps (tents) for as much as Rs 1 lakh. But for the poor, there are no arrangements at Kumbh,” she claimed while addressing the budget session of the state assembly on February 18th.
Earlier this month, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan dismissed the government's reported figures on the number of devotees attending the Mahakumbh, alleging that the water in Prayagraj is contaminated due to the disposal of stampede victims' bodies into the holy Ganga river. Following the stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela, SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav criticized the administration, claiming a significant failure in Prayagraj. He alleged that "thousands were killed," with some bodies “thrown into the Ganga” and others “buried.” Yadav further accused the state government of suppressing the actual death toll, asserting that officials were instructed not to report numbers exceeding 30.
Numerous tragic incidents have occurred across different locations in the country as massive crowds gather to attend the historic Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
