PM Modi Targets Congress: Waqf, Muslims, Karnataka & Telangana Among 5 Key Issue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp, multi-faceted critique of the Congress, accusing the party of indulging in Muslim appeasement, opposing the newly introduced Waqf law, and holding it responsible for price hikes in Karnataka and deforestation in Telangana.

He also strongly defended the new Waqf law ahead of the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on multiple petitions challenging it later this week.

Here are the top 5 key messages from Modi during his two speeches in Haryana on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti:

1. WAQF LAW IS ‘REAL SOCIAL JUSTICE’

Modi stated that the new law would honor the sacred essence of Waqf, ensuring that the rights of the poor and Pasmanda families within the Muslim community—particularly Muslim women, widows, and children—are protected and upheld. “And this is what Babasaheb Ambedkar has given us the task of doing in the spirit of the Constitution. This is the real spirit, this is real social justice," Modi said. He stated that the 2013 law enacted by the UPA served the interests of only a few land mafias, leading to the exploitation and seizure of land belonging to Dalits, backward communities, tribals, and widows.

“After the change in the Waqf law, this looting of the poor is going to stop. And the most important thing is that we have done a very responsible, important work. We have made another provision in this Waqf law. Now under the new law, this Waqf Board will not be able to touch any tribal’s land, his house, his property in any corner of India," said Modi. He added that the 2013 amendments made by the UPA had placed the old law above the Constitution. He also emphasized that Muslim youth would no longer be confined to livelihoods like repairing punctured bicycles, as had often been the case before.

2. Challenging the Congress

Modi challenged the Congress to appoint a Muslim as its party president, pointing out that the party claims to have introduced the 2013 law for the welfare of Muslims. “I want to ask all these people, I want to tell these vote bank hungry politicians, if you have any sympathy for Muslims in your heart, then why doesn’t the Congress make a Muslim its party president? They give tickets to Parliament, give 50 per cent to Muslims. If they win, they will tell their point. But this is not to be done, the Congress has nothing to give. Taking away and giving the rights of the country, the citizens of the country, their intention has never been to do good to anyone, not even to Muslims. This is the truth of the Congress," the Prime Minister stated, attempting to highlight the hypocrisy of the Congress.

The Prime Minister stated that the Congress party's policy of appeasement has severely harmed the Muslim community, benefiting only a few fundamentalists, while the majority remained uneducated and impoverished.

3. Muslim Reservation

The Prime Minister criticized the Karnataka government for implementing reservation based on religion, stating that it goes against the principles upheld by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. “Our Constitution made provision for reservation for SC, ST and OBC. But for playing political games, the Congress stabbed in the back the dream that Babasaheb Ambedkar had seen, the provision made in the Constitution for social justice, and made that provision of the Constitution a means of appeasement. You must have heard in the news that the Congress government of Karnataka has snatched the rights of SC, ST, OBC in the tender and given reservation on the basis of religion. Whereas Ambedkar had clearly said in the Constitution that reservation will not be provided on the basis of religion in this Constitution and our Constitution has banned reservation on the basis of religion," the Prime Minister stated, shortly after a caste census was presented to the Karnataka Cabinet.

4. Karnataka Price Increase

The Prime Minister also highlighted the "A to Z" of price hikes in Congress-ruled Karnataka, emphasizing the clear contrast between states governed by the BJP and those led by the Congress.

“In Karnataka, the Congress government has imposed multiple taxes on the people, increasing their financial burden. Even their own ministers have admitted that Congress has made Karnataka number one in corruption," the PM said.

The Siddaramaiah government has faced criticism over the increase in prices of various commodities, as noted in a Money Control report. The Prime Minister seized the opportunity to comment.

5. Telangana Forest

Modi also criticized the Congress government in Telangana for using bulldozers to demolish protected forest lands, causing destruction to the once-preserved forests. “In Telangana, the Congress has already begun forgetting the promises they made to the public. Their actions, such as bulldozing forest land and damaging the environment, show a complete disregard for nature," the PM said.

Recently, the Supreme Court had to intervene to put a stop to such action by the Telangana government. Modi did not lose a chance to target the Revanth Reddy government on this count.
