India’s Decade: PM Modi’s Landmark address to the US Congress

Introduction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stirring and impactful speech to the combined session of the US Congress, solidifying his status as the first Indian and only the third world leader to address the joint meeting twice as head of government. PM Modi emphasized the need for resolute and coordinated measures to overcome and eliminate forces supporting and exporting terror, highlighting the imperative of a global commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in the contemporary era.

The Prime Minister painted a positive and optimistic picture of India's relationship with the United States, envisioning a new and dynamic phase in their alliance that not only shapes their destinies but also significantly influences global affairs. Modi called for the reform of multilateral institutions, including the UN, advocating for a more inclusive and effective global governance structure. 


He outlined a shared vision for an Indo-Pacific region characterized by freedom, openness, inclusivity, and strict adherence to international law. The emphasis was on nations making choices freely, unburdened by overwhelming debt, and propelled by shared prosperity.


Unity in Diversity: India's Strength

Addressing the concept of unity in diversity, Prime Minister Modi ardently defended his government's track record on democracy and human rights. He refuted, with conviction, allegations of discrimination against minorities, highlighting India's unity despite its myriad of languages and dialects. 


The PM asserted that India embraces all faiths and celebrates diversity as a fundamental aspect of its way of life, countering claims of democratic regression under his leadership. He highlighted the importance of fostering an environment where diverse communities not only coexist but thrive harmoniously, contributing to the nation's rich tapestry. He also highlighted the importance of remembering leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. and many more who fought for freedom, equality and justice. 


Women Empowerment and Economic Growth

The Prime Minister turned his attention to the pivotal and transformative role played by women in guiding India towards a brighter and more inclusive future. He expressed India's vision for women not merely as contributors to development but as active leaders in the path of progress. Modi ji passionately emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to empowering women and ensuring their equal and meaningful participation in all spheres of life. 


On the economic front, he expressed unwavering confidence in India's ascent to the position of the third-largest global economy. He noted the significant and rapid progress from the 10th to the current fifth-largest economy, attributing the success to comprehensive economic reforms, strategic initiatives, and the collective efforts of the Indian populace.



The Ukraine Conflict

The PM also talked about the Ukraine conflict and how it is causing great

pain in the region since it involves great powers the consequences are severe. The Prime Minister also highlighted how global order is based on respect for the UN Charter, peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Mr Modi said, “This is not an era of war. This is an era of dialogue and diplomacy.”

Global Collaboration and Environmental Commitments

Modi highlighted the extensive and fruitful collaborative efforts between India and the US across various sectors, including defense, space, technology, trade, and agriculture. He proudly stated that India stands as the sole G20 nation to fulfill its Paris Agreement commitments, surpassing 40% renewable energy nearly a decade ahead of the 2030 goal. The proposal of Mission LiFE at the Glasgow Summit underscored India's unwavering commitment to advancing the cause of the planet, fostering prosperity in harmony with it, and prioritizing the well-being of its inhabitants.
