West Bengal has recently plunged into turmoil, marked by a collapse of law and order and a series of targeted attacks on the Hindu community.
The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government has been unable to curb the widespread violence, including arson, vandalism, and attacks on Hindu places of worship, businesses, and homes.

The crisis has been further aggravated by Mamata Banerjee's appeasement politics and the police's inaction against the offenders. In March 2025 alone, the state recorded eight attacks on the Hindu community.
Hindu Shops and Properties Targeted in Naoda Attacks
On March 9, BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari posted on X (formerly Twitter), reporting that shops and properties owned by the Hindu community were attacked at Patikabari Bazar in the Naoda block of West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
Adhikari tweeted, “A couple of hours ago, miscreants vandalised and set on fire Shops & Properties owned by Hindus at Patikabari Bazar, at Naoda Block of Murshidabad District.”
He urged the immediate intervention of the West Bengal police and the State's Chief Secretary. The BJP leader demanded the deployment of security forces to restore law and order.
Suvendu Adhikari also called for the Border Security Force (BSF) to be deployed to stabilize the situation.
“If you are not able to control the situation, kindly request Hon’ble Bengal Governor for the deployment of BSF personnel so that the law & order Situation is restored and normalcy is reimposed as early as possible,” the BJP MLA highlighted.
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya also posted the video of the attack on Hindu-owned shops and properties, accusing supporters of Mamata Banerjee of being behind the vandalism and arson.
Goddess Shitala Idol Torched in Baruipur
On March 7, an individual named Sheikh Indu vandalized the idol of Goddess Shitala and set it on fire in Baruipur city, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
Images and videos circulating on social media showed the charred idol and the damaged temple. Local residents managed to apprehend Sheikh Indu, who was allegedly responsible for the act of vandalism and arson.
On the same day, Baruipur police posted a tweet stating that the accused is a "person of unsound mind" with "mental health issues."
“Local people apprehended him and police took custody of the person. A case has been registered and investigation is on. The detained person is an outsider and has mental health issues,” it alleged.
Assault on Kali Temple in Basirhat
On March 9th, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh took to X (formerly Twitter) to report an attack on a Kali temple and the desecration of the Hindu deity's idol.
The incident occurred in Shankchura Bazar, located in Basirhat city, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. Ghosh accused local TMC politician Shahanoor Mondal of leading the attack on the temple.
Several hours later, on the same day, the West Bengal Police took to social media to assert that the attack had "no communal angle." They further stated that the individual responsible for vandalizing the Kali idol had "mental health issues."
Hindu Deity Idol Vandalized in Nandigram
On March 14th, BJP national spokesperson Amit Malviya took to X (formerly Twitter) to report another attack on a Hindu temple. The incident took place in Kamalpur village, located in Nandigram Block 2 of Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal.
He posted a video showing Hindu deity idols in a vandalized condition. “In Kamalpur, within the Amadabad region of Nandigram Block 2, local residents had been engaged in worship since last Tuesday,” Amit Malviya informed.
“However, when the puja and Ram Narayan kirtan continued uninterrupted, certain individuals—unable to tolerate the chanting of Shri Ram’s name—vandalized the site and desecrated the idols,” the national spokesperson of the BJP mentioned.
“This is a critical situation…The response of the police is muted…You can see that the cops are not doing anything,” a man was heard saying in the viral video. The footage also showed a police officer attempting to intimidate the person recording the images of the vandalized Hindu idols.
Muslims Cause Rampage in Mothabari, Malda
On March 27th, violent Muslim mobs wreaked havoc in Mothabari village, located in the Malda district of West Bengal. They destroyed public property and specifically targeted businesses owned by Hindus.
A Hindu woman shared her account of the terror inflicted on her family by the extremists. The video of her testimony was shared by BJYM leader Achintya Mondal.
“Muslims have destroyed Hindu homes…Hindus have been forced to hide under their beds with their young kids and family…No one was spared,” a victim was heard recounting her ordeal.
The woman gestured towards the Muslim homes in the village, highlighting how they have remained untouched. “They carried out bloodshed… They have finished our homes, shops and took away our money and belongings. How will we survive now? Show us a way,” the Hindu victim was overcome with emotion and burst into tears.
She recounted how the violent Muslim mobs also destroyed her son-in-law's residence. “The police ran for their lives. They did not save us,” the Hindu woman expressed her sorrow.
“What will we eat now? They have looted everything, including our grains…If Muslims continue these atrocities on us, how will we survive?” she asked.
A Hindu woman stated in an interview with the media that they are compelled to conceal their religious identity. “We have to remove our Sakha Pola and wear a head covering like the hijab. And we have to do it against our will,” she informed.
“Women are being abducted and subjected to torture…Stones are being pelted at our homes,” the woman continued. She also mentioned that Muslims are threatening to abduct and kill children if Hindu women refuse to follow their orders.
"Our children are sitting at home due to their trouble…We will not be able to survive without working…Why should we be forced to remain confined to our homes?” another Hindu woman asked.
A visibly upset woman added, “No action is taken against them, even though they are the ones who have committed the crimes.”
Another woman narrated, “Our children are unable to go to school.” One Hindu woman emphasised, “We want peace. We need justice. Can we live under such atrocities? They are threatening to abduct Hindu women.”
Betel Farms Owned by Hindus Set Ablaze in Jhaubona
On March 29th, BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar took to X (formerly Twitter) to share videos depicting targeted assaults on the Hindu community in Jhaubona, located in Murshidabad district, West Bengal.
He reported that Hindu-owned betel farms were torched, and shops were looted. Sukanta Majumdar emphasized the violent attacks carried out by Jihadi mobs against Hindus.
“Another horrifying attack on Hindus under Mamata Banerjee’s appeasement regime! Jihadi mobs unleashed terror in Jhaubona, Naoda (Murshidabad), after the Mothabari rampage. Under the cover of darkness, they deliberately set fire to Hindu-owned betel farms, looted shops in Jhaubona & Trimohini Bazaar, and launched violent assaults on innocent Hindus,” he tweeted.
Sukanta Majumdar called for immediate action against the Jihadi mobs, stating that “Hindus are second-class citizens in Bengal! Mamata’s shameful appeasement politics have endangered the lives of Bengal’s Hindus, but we are not afraid!”

“The injured have been taken to the Mugberia Hospital for treatment. The photos & video annexed herewith are from this incident,” Suvendu Adhikari added.

Vandalism of Shitala Mata Idol in Dakshin Dinajpur
On March 30th, BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar took to X (formerly Twitter) to report an attack on a Hindu temple in Keshabpur village, located in the South Dinajpur (Dakshin Dinajpur) district of West Bengal.
In images that have emerged on social media, the idol within the Shitala Mata temple premises appears to have been desecrated and defiled.
“See the devastation at the Shri Shri Shitala Mata Temple in Keshabpur, Jahangirpur region of South Dinajpur. Under the cover of night, the temple was vandalized, and the idol of the goddess was shattered in a manner reminiscent of fundamentalist jihadists in Bangladesh.”
“If an immediate investigation is not conducted to reveal those responsible for this disgraceful and barbaric attack on this sacred place of Hindu faith, the Karyakartas of Bharatiya Janata Party, West Bengal, will soon give a fitting response to the incompetent police administration of the appeasement-driven TMC government,” he added.
