On March 2, a Hindu family in Khambhalia, Devbhumi Dwarka, was allegedly attacked by a group of four Muslim men for bursting crackers in the courtyard of Shrinathji Haveli. An FIR has been registered under Sections 115(2), 117(2), 352, and 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 135(1) of the Gujarat Police Act. As per the complaint, Vipul Thakar’s nephew was bursting leftover crackers from the temple’s annual Patotsav, which took place on February 20. Around 10 PM, three Muslim men—Maqsood, Moin, and Tausif—allegedly entered the temple courtyard wielding sticks and began hurling abuses, demanding an end to the celebrations. Shortly after, a fourth individual, Phoolkand, joined them, carrying a wooden stick.

Acts of Violence and Intimidation

Thakar, in his complaint, stated that the altercation escalated when Maqsood suddenly struck him on the left arm with a baseball bat, causing a fracture. His nephew was also assaulted by the group. Upon hearing the commotion, women and neighbors rushed to the scene, prompting the attackers to flee. Both victims sustained multiple injuries, and doctors confirmed that Thakar had a fractured left arm while his nephew suffered several bruises.

Thakar further alleged that the attackers not only verbally abused him but also insulted the temple and its deity. He claimed they threatened to lock the temple and harm his family if they continued bursting crackers.

OpIndia attempted to contact the relevant police station for a statement but was unable to establish communication. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
