Inter-faith marriages are one of the most debated topics in India because India is a culturally diverse country. It has been a matter of debate for years but in the last seven years, this seems to have gone a level up with the “Love Jihad” flooding mainstream media. Although the leftist intelligentsia sees this term merely as a figment of the right-wing central government to create a divide between the Hindu and Muslim community, the incidents that have taken place in recent years raise questions on the deliberate attempts to dwarf the matter. Had it been a matter of Hindu-Muslim rift, people could have taken this as a polarisation attempt.
The reiteration of Kerala’s Christian MLA PC George about increasing “Love Jihad” in Kerala further raises suspicions on the negligence of left-liberals who have deliberately tried to conceal the matter. According to George, only in his constituency Poonjar, 47 cases of Love Jihad have come to light including 12 Hindus and 35 Christians. According to him, this is an attempt by Jihadis to turn India into an Islamic nation by 2030. He went on to say that India must be declared a “Hindu Rashtra” lest the Jihadis will become successful in their devious plan.
Is interfaith marriage in India criminalized? Let’s find out.
What actually is Love Jihad?
Love Jihad is a sinister plan of Jihadis to turn non-Muslim girls (sometimes boys) into Muslims by the way of deception, lies and at times, the disguise of real identity. For example, if the target is vulnerable and belonging to a particular community, then The modus operandi includes befriending the target and making him/her believe that the perpetrator belongs to his/her community. When the couple is deeply in love, the perpetrator would elope to marry. After a certain period of time when identity is revealed, the target is left with no option but to continue the marriage.
Then comes the evil. “Convert to Islam!” There is emotional deception, manipulation, or whatever you call it. If the target refuses to convert, the chances of him/her getting killed, or sold into slavery, or human trafficking gets higher.
We would like to clarify that it does not happen with every couple. But it has happened a number of times which has caused serious concerns for the government to re-think the inter-faith marriage laws. Many incidents of Love Jihad have taken place in May itself.
A Muslim man named Abid disguised himself as a Hindu police officer Aditya was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police. He was accused of cheating Hindu women while concealing his religious identity and lying about his occupation.
In October 2020, the murder of Nikita Tomar grabbed the eyeballs of world media. It was a prima facie case of Love Jihad. Nikita being a Hindu girl refused to convert to Islam multiple times. two Muslim boys tried to kidnap her. Later on, one of the boys Taufeeq shot her in broad daylight and Nikita succumbed to death.
Why Love Jihad?
For centuries, India has been attacked by Muslim invaders so that they could convert India into Dar-ul-Islam (abode of Islam) from Dar-ul-Harb (abode of war). Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar wrote a detailed piece on this ideology of Islam. According to him, as per the Muslim canon law, it is every Muslim’s duty to bring the entire world under one roof of Islam be it by means of coercion, deceit, or violence. They will continue this fight until every single human being of this world is brought into Islam. Love Jihad is nothing but a part of this mission to turn India into Dar-ul-Islam by changing the demography of India. Do you think I am being paranoid about it? Is this a conspiracy theory? No.
Here are more cases of Love Jihad where the means were different but the end of it all was the same:
Islam is a one-way street
When a non-Muslim marries a Muslim, in more than 90% of cases, the non-Muslim converts to Islam or is made to convert to Islam. But not the other way around. Let’s look at our Bollywood.
Shahrukh married Gauri and she had to convert to Islam.
Sharmila Tagore married Tiger Pautadi and became Aisha Begum
Sharmila Tagore’s daughter married Kunal Khemu but didn’t convert to Hinduism
If a Muslim leaves Islam, then they are punishable under apostasy law. Therefore, they force the other person to convert to Islam. It is like a zombie apocalypse. At the end of it, you are either dead or a zombie yourself.
Is it against interfaith marriages in India?
No, it is not against interfaith marriages at all in any of the states that came up with the law. The interfaith couple can marry without any restrictions under the Special Marriage Act in the Indian Constitution. The Indian government is not against inter-faith marriage or a Hindu marrying Muslim. It is protecting the right to practice a religion which is a fundamental right of each individual and watching out for them so they are deceived into forceful conversion.
Some so-called intellectuals see this law as an attempt by BJP states to score brownie points so that they could consolidate Hindu votes in their states. So, what would they say about the Christian MLA PC George? Is he also trying to lure the Hindu votes?
The left-leaning media has created ruckus ever since the law was passed by the four states questioning the intention of the law. However, they won’t dare to question the Islamic law which prohibits a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim man.
Himachal Pradesh
According to the Himachal Pradesh Law Minister, Suresh Bhardwaj, the state can take action now in incidents involving forcible conversion from one religion to another with the Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2019 coming into force.
Madhya Pradesh
According to the anti-conversion bill named Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021, there is a provision of a prison term of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for conversion through “marriage or by any other fraudulent means”.
Gujarat
The Freedom of Religion Act 2003 Bill passed by the Gujarat Assembly penalizes forcible or fraudulent religious conversion by marriage. The Bill will have provision for 3-10 years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh if the accused is found guilty.
Uttar Pradesh
According to the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020, individuals seeking to convert and religious converters (who perform the conversion) need to submit an advance declaration of the proposed religious conversion to the District Magistrate (DM).
The act is almost the same in all four states. According to the new law, anyone who desires to convert to any other religion has to give a declaration to the district authorities at least one month prior. He or she has to specify that one is doing so according to his/her “own volition or free consent”. Not only this, even the religious priest who performs the conversion ceremony has to inform the authorities at least one month in advance.
There will be an inquiry conducted regarding the “intention, purpose and cause of proposed conversion” by the district magistrate. In case the authorities are not informed in advance, the conversion will be rendered illegal. Under the act, all offenses are cognizable and non-bailable.
Usually forced conversions to take place abruptly, so authorities will easily find out if a conversion declaration has been submitted or not. In case no declaration is found, it will be easy for them to nab the culprit.
Why was this law formulated?
As non-Muslim women have been continuously under threat, there has been a need to protect their fundamental right to practice their faith without any fear of getting threatened or assault by a Muslim husband or lover.
Islam has no space for non-Muslims
Dear left-liberal champions of secularism, please refer to this link wherein you can find countries, mostly Islamic, clearly prohibiting marriages between people of two different religions. There are more than 28 countries that penalize interfaith marriages. An exception is Tunisia which in 2017 allowed non-Muslims to marry Muslims without the need to convert to Islam.
In most Islamic countries, there is a provision for non-Muslims to convert to Islam before marrying a Muslim. In case, a person is still found practicing his/her faith after marriage, he or she is subject to harsh punishment.
So, the time is ripe for left-liberals to stop making noise about these laws and start investigating the various cleavages in Islam that deem not fit to be a part of modern society such as forced conversion, coercion, or slaughter of non-Muslims just because some guy got hallucination on the top of the mountain some 1400 years ago. Why does Islam resist change so much?
