Election Update: Recent Developments

Following the unanimous passage of a resolution endorsing Narendra Modiji, the leader of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, by all alliance partners, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve again and assured good governance under the NDA government. This morning, newly elected MPs of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convened at the Central Hall of the old Parliament Building for discussions on cabinet formation prior to the swearing-in ceremony.

This development follows the NDA's attainment of a majority, securing 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. However, the BJP's seat count stood at 240, notably lower than its 2019 tally.


Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi announced at the NDA parliamentary party meeting that the coalition parties had collectively elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader. He further noted that 21 NDA leaders endorsed the resolution, acknowledging PM Modi's contributions to nation-building, poverty alleviation, and development, underscoring their shared commitment to these endeavors.


Modiji’s Comment

Addressing the media, Modiji said, “The President has appointed me as PM-designate, and has informed her that the swearing-in ceremony may be held on Sunday."


Modiji also thanked the people of the country for giving the mandate. "I assure you that the speed with which the country progressed in the previous terms, will continue to do so."


"The 18th Lok Sabha is about new energy, youth energy, and it will work for the Amrit Kal. It is an important milestone towards fulfilling those dreams when the country will be celebrating 100 years of independence in 2047," Modiji added.

Following his encounter with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, PM Modi expressed that the 18th Lok Sabha embodies a fresh vigor, youthful dynamism, and a strong resolve to make a difference. He emphasized its commitment to realize the aspirations of the nation, paving the way for the Amrit Kal era. This parliamentary term marks a significant stride towards the realization of these aspirations, especially as the nation approaches the centenary of its independence in 2047.


PM Touches Constitution to Forehead at NDA Meeting

The newly elected parliamentarians of the NDA gathered today at the Samvidhan Bhavan of the Parliament to choose the alliance leader. Prime Minister Narendra Modiji entered to chants of "Modi, Modi," immediately bowed to the Constitution, picked it up, touched it to his forehead, then placed it back and bowed again.


NDA Meeting Updates

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Parliament for the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, where senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh proposed Modiji's name as the leader of both the BJP and the NDA in the Lok Sabha. This nomination sets the stage for Modiji to continue his leadership role, guiding the coalition's agenda in the newly elected government.


BJP national president JP Nadda congratulated Prime Minister Modi, praising him for dedicating every moment to national service. Nadda attributed India's historic progress and the NDA's third consecutive majority government to Modiji's leadership. He highlighted the NDA's success in forming governments in states like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, emphasizing the transformation from an indifferent India a decade ago to the current aspiring nation.


Senior BJP leader Amit Shah seconded the proposal to name PM Modi as the leader of the NDA parliamentary party. Shah's endorsement further solidified Modiji's position as the central figure in the coalition, underscoring the unanimous support within the party for his continued leadership. This unity reflects the party's confidence in Modiji's ability to drive India's development and political stability.


Support from NDA Leaders

Nitin Gadkari and other NDA leaders supported the proposal for Modiji to be the leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha, the BJP parliamentary party, and the NDA parliamentary party.


TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu congratulated the NDA on the electoral victory, praising PM Modi's relentless campaigning efforts, particularly in Andhra Pradesh.

 

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Proposed Narendra Modiji's name for a third term as PM, pledging unwavering support to Modiji's decisions.


Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Supported Modiji's nomination as the NDA Parliamentary Party Leader.


Chirag Paswan (Lok Janshakti Party - Ram Vilas) Also backed the proposal for PM Modi as the Leader of the Lok Sabha, BJP, and NDA Parliamentary Party.

 

Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM(S)): Supported Modi Ji's leadership in the NDA Parliamentary Party.


Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal (S)): Endorsed PM Modi's nomination as the NDA Parliamentary Party Leader.


PM Modi Addresses NDA Meeting

PM Modi expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the leaders of the constituent parties present, newly elected MPs, and Rajya Sabha MPs. He welcomed the large gathering and congratulated the victorious leaders. He saluted the lakhs of workers who have worked tirelessly, acknowledging their efforts from the central hall.


Modiji highlighted the strength of India's democracy, noting that the people have given the NDA the opportunity to form the government and serve in 22 states. He felt fortunate to be unanimously chosen as the leader of the NDA, expressing gratitude for the new responsibility.


Recalling his 2019 speech, he emphasized the importance of trust. He noted that the strong foundation of trust between the leaders and the people is the biggest asset of the NDA.


Modiji mentioned that the NDA serves in 7 out of 10 states with a significant tribal population. He highlighted NDA's presence in states with high Christian populations, such as Goa and the Northeast. He described the NDA as a group committed to putting the nation first, evolving organically in India's political system. Modiji paid tribute to great leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Parkash Singh Badal, and Balasaheb Thackeray for sowing the seeds of the NDA. He expressed pride in carrying forward their legacy and values over the past 10 years, aiming to take the country forward.


Modiji asserted that all leaders, irrespective of party affiliation, are equal in Parliament. He emphasized the principle of "Sabka Prayaas," meaning everyone's effort is important, which has strengthened the NDA alliance over the past 30 years. Modiji recounted his reaction to election results on June 4th, focusing on the opposition's criticism of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He noted that the opposition's campaign against EVMs was silenced by the election outcome, which demonstrated the strength and fairness of India's democracy. He expressed hope that the EVM controversy would not resurface for the next five years but speculated it might reappear in 2029. 


PM Modi characterized the 2024 Lok Sabha election results as a 'Mahavijay' (great victory) for the NDA, recognized globally. He observed the opposition's reaction, noting their imaginary promises to boost their morale, which made it seem like the NDA had lost. He concluded by stating that this election resulted in the strongest alliance government in history, despite attempts to undermine the victory.


Modiji reaches LK Advani's Residence

Narendra Modiji visited the home of seasoned BJP leader LK Advani in Delhi after a session in Parliament. Today, Modiji was appointed as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party.

Kangana says NDA is here to Stay

Following her participation in the NDA's Parliamentary Party gathering in Delhi, Kangana Ranaut, the BJP MP representing Mandi, expressed that Prime Minister Modi has articulated a visionary plan for the forthcoming 25 years, affirming the enduring presence of the NDA.


“I think there is an atmosphere of enthusiasm in the whole country because it is the country's mandate. The country wants Modiji to lead us. You can witness the energy across the country. The celebrations are not only for the NDA but for people of the country. He (PM Modi) has given a vision for the next 25 years," Kangana told PTI.

‘INDIA Bloc never worked for the nation’ says Nitish Kumar

Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with newly-elected MPs and coalition partners, including TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar, expressed their support for Narendra Modiji to continue leading the next government of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Modiji was formally elected as the Parliamentary leader of the NDA during a meeting held in the central hall of the Parliament on Friday.


It is anticipated that Narendra Modiji will be sworn in as Prime Minister on Sunday. Following this, Modiji, accompanied by Naidu and Nitish Kumar, is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu later today to officially claim the mandate for government formation.


During an interaction, the Chief Minister of Bihar made a gesture to bow down to Prime Minister Modi, which was graciously declined by the Prime Minister. Instead, they exchanged embraces.


Kumar also forecasted that the parties within the Opposition bloc, INDIA, which secured seats this time, would face losses in the 2029 Lok Sabha Elections. With the NDA securing 293 MPs, comfortably surpassing the majority threshold of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha in the recently concluded general elections.


The BJP emerged victorious in 240 out of 543 seats, while the Congress secured 99 seats. Despite falling short of the 272-majority mark, the BJP will collaborate with its NDA allies to establish the government.


Nitish Kumar’s Comments

"All the pending works of Bihar will be done. It is a very good thing that all of us have come together and we will all work together with you (PM Modi). You will be swearing in as the Prime Minister on Sunday, but I wanted you to do it today itself. Whenever you take the oath, we will be with you...We will all work together under your leadership..." Nitish Kumar said at the meeting.


"They never worked for the nation. They never served the country. The country will progress under your (PM Modi) leadership," he said.


PM Modi slams INDIA bloc leaders for their hue and cry over EVMs

Addressing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary meeting, PM Narendra Modiji said when the results were being announced on Tuesday, he asked someone if the EVMs were still alive or dead. He added that they always accused the voting machine and the electoral process and have ensured that people stop believing in democracy and the democratic process of India.


"When results were coming out on 4th June, I was busy with work. Phone calls started coming in later. I asked someone, numbers are fine, tell me EVM zinda hai ki mar gaya. These people (Opposition) had decided to ensure that people stop believing in democracy and democratic process of India. They continuously abused EVM," news agency ANI quoted Modiji as saying.
