The model code of conduct, which came into effect on March 16 with the announcement of the Lok Sabha election, has now been lifted.

The model code of conduct is a set of guidelines agreed upon by all stakeholders and enforced during elections. Shifting Alliances: AAP to Contest Delhi Assembly Elections Independently

Amidst speculation about whether the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, both part of the INDIA bloc, would contest the Delhi assembly election together, senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Gopal Rai clarified that the party will go solo. Rai stated that the alliance with Congress was solely for the Lok Sabha elections.

"From the very first day, it was clear that the INDIA alliance was for the Lok Sabha elections. For the Vidhan Sabha, no alliance has been formed. Aam Aadmi Party will contest the elections with its full strength," Rai said

after a meeting of party MLAs at CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. The AAP has achieved landslide victories in two consecutive assembly elections but has not won any seats in the last three Lok Sabha elections (2014, 2019, and 2024).

China's Meltdown Over PM Modi's Strong Taiwan Stance

The Chinese government has lodged a formal protest with India regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response to a congratulatory message from Taiwan's President. According to the Global Times, while Taiwan's leader extended his congratulations to Modi on his election victory, only the Chinese envoy in India did the same from China's side.

"China has always firmly opposed any form of official interaction between the Taiwan regional authorities and countries that have diplomatic relations with China," stated Mao Ning, a Chinese Foreign Office spokesperson, on Thursday. "There is only one China in the world. India has made serious political commitments regarding the one-China principle and should be vigilant against the political schemes of the Taiwan authorities and refrain from actions that violate the one-China principle," reported the Global Times, quoting spokesperson Ning.

Taiwan's President, Lai Ching-te, was among the world leaders who congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his June 4 Lok Sabha election victory.

"We look forward to enhancing the fast-growing Taiwan-India partnership, expanding our collaboration on trade, technology & other sectors to contribute to peace & prosperity in the Indo-Pacific," Lai wrote on X.

"I look forward to closer ties as we work towards a mutually beneficial economic and technological partnership."

PM Modi's Oath Ceremony on Saturday

Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on Saturday, following his unanimous selection as the leader by his allies in a key meeting in Delhi yesterday. This development comes as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a significant victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, winning 293 out of 543 seats despite the BJP itself falling short of the halfway mark with 240 seats. Key NDA partners, including Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party and Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal-United, convened at Modi's residence to affirm their support and elect him as the alliance leader.

In keeping with the government's 'Neighbourhood First' policy, invitations have been extended to prominent South Asian leaders for the oath-taking ceremony. Confirmations have already been received from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, following personal phone conversations with PM Modi. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, through his media division, confirmed his attendance and extended congratulations to Modi on his electoral victory. Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, one of the first to congratulate Modi, is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Friday, as reported by Bangladeshi media.

Additional formal invitations have been sent to Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth. This gesture underscores India's commitment to regional cooperation and strengthening ties with its neighbors. The presence of these leaders at the ceremony highlights the importance of diplomatic relations and mutual support within the South Asian region.

Reflecting on past ceremonies, the 2014 swearing-in saw the attendance of leaders from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries, while the 2019 event was graced by leaders from BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) countries. This continuity of inviting regional leaders symbolizes India's ongoing efforts to foster strong international relationships and regional stability as it embarks on another term under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
