Building India's Future: PM’s Roadmap for 100 Days and Beyond

Introduction

As the country is on the precipice of electing its next leader through the general elections, the Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is leaving no stone unturned in preparing a comprehensive roadmap for the country's development. Amidst the election frenzy, top bureaucrats in New Delhi are burning the midnight oil, working tirelessly to formulate a '100-day Action Plan' for the next government, as directed by PM Modi on March 3.

The 100-Day Action Plan: A Blueprint for Immediate Action

In a marathon 9-hour meeting with all secretaries on March 3, PM Modi set the tone for the 100-day plan, emphasizing the need for continuity in government functioning despite the election season. He urged bureaucrats to "think big" and move beyond "low-hanging fruits," setting the stage for ambitious goals and initiatives. The PM's vision for the first 100 days is centered around creating a "citizen-empowered government" driven by technology adoption, digital empowerment, and the use of Artificial Intelligence. To achieve this, the secretaries have identified six key "building blocks" for the 100-day plan:

1. Macroeconomy

3. Thriving and sustainable economy

4. Technology and innovation leadership

5. Effective governance

6. Bharat as Vishwabandhu (India's role as a global partner)

Key Initiatives and Reforms

The 100-day plan is expected to focus on several critical areas, including:

1. Greater citizen empowerment through measures such as the 'Jan Vishwas 2.0' initiative, which aims to review laws and reduce the compliance burden on citizens.

2. Strengthening institutions through the operationalization of the anti-paper leak Bill and the introduction of a new Right to Services Bill.

3. Digital transformation through mechanisms for digital delivery of all citizen services, the launch of a pilot for e-passports, and the digitization of 100 crore pages of district and subordinate court cases.

4. Infrastructure development, with the sanction of projects worth Rs 4,000 crore for the North-east region and the operationalization of six new foreign missions and two consulates.

5. Promotion of the media and entertainment sector through the announcement of a Global Media and Entertainment Summit.

6. According to a source, the PM has proposed the formation of a committee to examine the changing demographics of the country, particularly the increasing number of nuclear families and senior citizens living alone.

7. A suggestion to include Tamil as an official language in Union government correspondence, alongside English and Hindi, following the Prime Minister's recent remarks promoting Tamil.

8. A focus on key themes such as 'Women-led development', 'Sustainable green economy', 'Transforming cities into vibrant socio-economic hubs', and 'India as a global startup ecosystem'. Additionally, if the Modi government is re-elected, it will also prioritize implementing a National Litigation Policy, negotiating an extradition treaty with Italy, and undertaking a revamp of DD News and Prasar Bharati.

Vision for 2047: A Roadmap for India's Transformation

PM Modi's vision extends far beyond the initial 100 days, with a long-term goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, marking the centenary of the country's independence. This ambitious target requires consistent high growth rates of about 8% and a comprehensive strategy spanning various sectors.

According to projections presented to PM Modi last month, the government envisions an increase in the size of the Indian economy to more than $30 trillion from the current $3.5 trillion, and a seven-fold jump in per capita income to $18,000 a year.

To achieve this vision, the government is exploring a range of initiatives, including:

1. Establishing about 10 new cities to expand manufacturing and services sectors, while easing population congestion. This project is estimated to require initial funding of about 100 billion rupees ($1.2 billion).

2. Implementing a new interest subsidy scheme on loans for affordable homes to drive growth in the real estate sector.

3. Amending the insolvency and bankruptcy law to reduce delays and maximize returns from liquidated assets, as well as increasing the strength of the bankruptcy tribunal for faster disposal of cases.

4. Facilitating Indian companies to list shares directly on international exchanges in Gujarat's financial hub.

5. Concluding free trade agreements with the UK and Oman.

6. Developing an industry for Indian-made commercial aircraft by 2035.

7. Preparing a blueprint for developing India's own credit ratings company.

8. Pushing states for more reforms on vehicular pollution and making municipal corporations financially self-sufficient.

Conclusion

As India gears up for the upcoming elections, the government's ambitious 100-day action plan and vision for 2047 set the stage for a transformative journey. From citizen empowerment and digital transformation to economic growth and infrastructure development, the plan encompasses a wide range of initiatives aimed at propelling the nation towards prosperity and progress. With a focus on effective governance, technology leadership, and sustainable development, the government is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to make India a global powerhouse by 2047. As the nation eagerly awaits the election results, the 100-day action plan and the long-term vision serve as a testament to the government's commitment to building a prosperous and developed India.
