Female students residing in the hostel at Barkatullah University, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, were allegedly harassed and forced to write an apology for visiting a temple and reciting the Sunderkand. This incident sparked a protest led by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), who opposed the hostel administration's actions.
The students reported that the chief warden, Ayesha Rais, stated Hindu girls must seek prior approval from the university administration before visiting the temple.

"The prohibition of Sunderkand and religious activities will not be tolerated under Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's government," declared ABVP, the student wing affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). ABVP members gathered at the university’s main gate, organized a Ramdhun, and prayed for the administration to act with wisdom.
An ABVP leader condemned the warden's decision to restrict students from participating in religious activities, vowing to continue their protest against what they termed an unjust order.
In response, Chief Warden Ayesha Rais clarified that students are allowed to participate in cultural events held on campus. She emphasized that the issue was related to maintaining security and discipline.
Several Hindu organizations have expressed their anger over the incident, warning of street protests if no action is taken against the warden. She further added, “This is not a religious issue. It was resolved. The matter is not about going anywhere, but about discipline. The Vice Chancellor has formed a committee and it will investigate. The girls are like our children. Nothing should happen to them. They live away from their parents. We give them so much love. We provide them with security so that they can enjoy their studies.”
“It is our job to act as guardians. We maintain a register regarding the arrival and departure times of the students. We also keep an eye on the girls to return to the hostel on time. They are also warned to be on time when they get late. The issue has been settled and the girls have agreed. They have completed their entry,” Ayesha Rais alleged.
A Sunderkand event was reportedly held on the university campus, with female students also participating. As a result, they returned to the hostel later than usual. The hostel warden had instructed them to be back between 7:00 and 7:30 PM. In case of further delay, they were advised to seek permission from the university.
