PM Modi refers to Congress as 'parasitic', claiming it consumes its allies

PM Modi criticized Congress, labeling it a "parasitic party." He accused the party of "swallowing its allies."

"In Jammu and Kashmir, its (Congress) allies were already worried that they were suffering losses because of Congress and today's results have shown the same. You must remember that we saw the same thing in the election results as well. In Lok Sabha, half of the seats won by Congress were because of their allies. Apart from this, where the allies trusted Congress, the boat of those allies sank. In many states, the allies of Congress had to bear the brunt of Congress's poor performance," PM Modi said.

He added, "Congress is such a parasitic party that swallows its allies. Congress wants to make such a country where people hate their own heritage, doubt their national institutions, and want to tarnish the image of everything that the countrymen are proud of. Whether it is the country's Election Commission, the country's police, the country's judiciary, Congress wants to tarnish every institution."

Congress trying to weaken India, provoke different sections of society: PM Modi

PM Modi criticized the Congress party, alleging that it aims to undermine India and incite divisions among various segments of society.

"Congress wants to weaken the country by weakening the Indian society and spreading anarchy in India, that is why they are instigating different sections. They are constantly trying to ignite a fire. The country saw how attempts were made to instigate farmers, but the farmers of Haryana gave them a befitting reply that they are with the country, they are with the BJP. Many attempts were made to instigate Dalits and OBCs, but this society also recognised this conspiracy and said that they are with the country, they are with the BJP," PM Modi said.

Hardeep Singh Puri on BJP's Haryana performance: One must never underestimate the maturity of the voters

"We should never underestimate the maturity of our voters... The voters of Haryana have made it very clear now that they are voting for their stability and continuity and the development work that PM Modi has done in the last 10 years..."

He further attacked Congress for its remarks questioning the Haryana polls result. "When the result does not come in favour of the Congress party, they fight with the EVM. Then they say that the Election Commission is delaying. The Election Commission has its own procedures," Hardeep Singh Puri said.

"Doda barfi" for AAP in Jammu and Kashmir, but nothing in Haryana

The AAP surprised many by winning its first seat in Jammu and Kashmir, establishing a foothold in the Union Territory, even as it did not gain any seats in Haryana. Mehraj Malik secured the Doda seat, which has a Muslim majority, by more than 4,500 votes. With this victory, the AAP, currently governing in Punjab and Delhi, now has representation in the legislative assemblies of J&K, Goa, and Gujarat.

Mehraj Malik, who previously won the District Development Council (DDC) elections in J&K in 2020, gained attention for his outspoken criticism of the administration under the Lieutenant Governor in J&K.

Having joined the AAP in 2013, Malik serves as the district development councillor for the Kahara segment. In the 2014 elections, the Doda seat was captured by the BJP.

Following the victory, Malik spoke with party convenor Arvind Kejriwal via video call, inviting him to J&K on October 10 to celebrate the win. Kejriwal congratulated Malik and highlighted that the AAP now has MLAs in five states.

What makes Malik's victory particularly significant is that he defeated prominent leaders from both the Congress and the National Conference. Doda was one of five constituencies where the Congress and NC opted for "friendly contests" despite a pre-poll alliance.

The Congress nominated Sheikh Riyaz, while the National Conference put forth Khalid Najib Suharwady for the seat.

Riyaz began his political career as a sarpanch and later became the general secretary of J&K Congress. In contrast, Najib Suharwardy comes from a political lineage; his father, Maulana Attaullah Suharwady, won from Doda in the 1996 elections. Najib also served as J&K's Home Minister from 2001 to 2002 during Farooq Abdullah's government.

AAP Fails to open account in Haryana

Despite conducting an aggressive campaign in Haryana, the AAP failed to make an impact in the Hindi heartland state, garnering only 1.77% of the vote share. This outcome is a significant setback for the party led by Arvind Kejriwal, especially with the Delhi Assembly elections approaching in February.

The AAP contested the elections independently in Haryana, which is Kejriwal's home state, putting forward 89 candidates after being unable to form a coalition with the Congress.

Geographically sandwiched between Delhi and Punjab—both governed by the AAP—Haryana has proven to be a formidable challenge for the party. Since its inception in 2014, the AAP has not succeeded in winning any seats in either Assembly or Lok Sabha elections in Haryana.

In the 2019 elections, the AAP lost all 46 seats it contested and received a vote share lower than NOTA. Additionally, it failed to secure the sole seat in Kurukshetra that it contested during the Lok Sabha elections, as well as all four constituencies it fought for in Delhi.

Congress's Mandeep Chatha emerged victorious in the assembly election, beating BJP candidate Jai Bhagwan Sharma by a margin of 6,553 votes.
