10 Maoists Killed in Sukma Encounter, AK-47 Rifles Recovered in Chhattisgarh

Police reported that at least 10 Maoists were killed in a clash with security forces in Sukma district on Friday.


Sunderaj P, the Inspector General of Police for the Bastar range, stated that the operation involved the District Reserve Guard (DRG) team and personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

"The forces had received intelligence about the presence of Maoists in the area. We are yet to identify the bodies of the Maoists recovered," said the IG.


The teams have seized multiple weapons, including INSAS rifles, AK-47 rifles, and SLR rifles.


The search operation remains ongoing.


"More details are awaited as the team is still in the jungle," the IG added.


A Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces on Thursday in the Malakangiri district of Odisha. Police reported that the gunfight occurred between the security forces and Maoists near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, leading to the death of one Maoist.


Chhattisgarh's Battle Against Maoist Insurgency

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday at the North Block in New Delhi.


During the meeting, the two leaders addressed various issues, with a particular focus on the development of Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-affected regions and ongoing efforts to foster peace and stability there.


The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government, in collaboration with security forces, is working tirelessly to eliminate Naxals from Chhattisgarh and is committed to fulfilling the Union Home Minister’s goal of eradicating Naxalism by 2026.


"I met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised him of the Naxal activities in Chhattisgarh... In the last 11 months, nearly 200 Naxals have been eliminated, and nearly 600-700 have surrendered. We are fast moving towards the Prime Minister's and Home Minister's aim of making India a Naxal-free country by March 2026," CM Sai told reporters after the meeting today.
